The tragedy

So i haven't blogged for a while, but now I am. Something really BAD! happened and I will tell you the story. So we are about to leave to go to Wisconsin and we close the chickens up. We are like, "They will be fine." So we left for our trip had a really good time but when we got home everything changed.....  We went outside to check on the chickens and the door was open on the chicken coop. We saw the chickens in the garden. I counted 1... 2... 3... chickens, but where is Esther?!

I look in the woods. I can't find her so I look around one side of the yard and then I was going to check the other side when my neighbor Tate came over. He ran over and asked me if I wanted to play baseball. I said not right now because I am trying to find Esther. So he came with me to the other side and then this is where the really bad part happens. Tate is like, "What is that in the grass?" We walk over and we see..... feathers for Esther. We keep walking... more feathers... more feathers... and then at the end of the trail was a dead chicken.

R.I.P. Esther.  Sad Chicken Man out.  Peace.

Bigger Chickens!

I haven't posted for a long time and I have a lot to tell you about. After we got home from vacation the chickens where HUGE! My dad was the first one to look in and he yelled. At first I thought one of the chickens died. But then I looked in and there where 4 chickens, but big chickens. We decided that we needed to finish the coop. That was the first thing that we did. Let me show you some pictures of the chickens and their coop. The chickens like their new coop next to our garden very much. We let them out to play during the day but they always go in at night so predators don't get them. Chicken Man out. Peace.

Playing With Chickens

I have been getting some questions of how do you play with your chicks, well one thing is that you can run around and train them to follow you (make sure you don't step on them). You can watch a video of that on my blog. Another way you can play with them is by wrapping them up in towels like burritos but don't eat them, they are chickens that are living. You can also chase them around the place. Well that wraps it up. Chicken Man out. Peace.

Common questions

Since I've started this blog, I've had lots of questions about chickens.  Here are some of them.

Q:  How long do chickens live?
A:  As long as a dog 10- 15.

Q:  When do they start laying eggs?
A:   When they are 9 months old.

Q:  How many chickens should you get?
A:  It depends on how much space you have and how many eggs you want. A chicken lays an egg every 25 hours.

Q:  Do chickens need exercise?
A:  Yes.  Check out this video.  Look closely for Buffy.

Chicken Problems

We are having some problems with my chicks. Their butts are full of poop.  We looked it up and it is called pasting.  So we have to soak their butts in the water.  Here is Francis in the water. You need to watch them because they could drown.

Caring for Chicks

If you want your chickens to be comfortable around you you must play with them. Hold them, be around them. Caring :  1. wash your hands after you touch them, 2. clean the water 1 time every day, 3. make sure the heat lamp is at the right temp. I found out they like it around 85 degrees. 4.If you have them in your garage KEEP IT SHUT. 5. Have fun with them!
